At last The Satanic Rites Of Dracula arrives on blu ray. This was Christopher Lee's final performance as Count Dracula, plus Peter Cushing returns as Van Helsing. I really like this film which is a sequel to Dracula A D 72 which is also available on blu ray. The print quality is excellent and this is the uncut version with the stake scene intact. There are not many extras just a theatrical trailer. The packaging is nice and features the original poster art. Best of all the blu ray is region free so should play on your blu ray machine.

This is the last of the Christopher Lee Hammer films, and for me it's the best since Dracula has Risen from the Grave (#3).Set in the 70s, this has elements of a police procedural film and is none the worse for it.Lee has more talking to do in this film than most of the others. Most importantly Peter Cushing returns as Van Helsing, well his great grandson. The scene near the end when the two protagonists meet sitting at a desk in an office is superb.A fine way to finish the series.

I had an horrible quality, probably public domain unofficial DVD. until now the Region 1 Anchor bay was the best version. While this Blu Ray is far from perfect with no extras, the film hasn’t looked better.

This is a real classic and along with Dracula A.D. 1972 the very best of Hammer's Dracula films. Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing as always make a great team.

Hammer Film's final entry in their Dracula cycle once again pits Christopher Lee's Count alongside Peter Cushing's Van Helsing in contemporary London for the second time. Interesting that this was 1973 and the year of The Exorcist. Hammer were looking forlorn and the writing was on the wall for the company. They were sticking with a trusted formula, and after their drab previous offering Dracula A.D 72, here we at least get something that looks a little more believable and convincing as opposed to left over pickings from the hippy age.Yes, the plot would make Bram Stoker roll in his grave, but if you can sideline that for the duration then what we have is a fast paced, well directed blood-fest containing the necessary vital ingredients. Atmosphere, fangs, glamorous vampire women, staking's and even a naked sacrifice are all there to be savoured. Mention too for Joanna Lumley, who turns up as Van Helsing's granddaughter and prime candidate for Dracula's attention.Peter Cushing brings his usual professional dedication to the role, totally convincing in a part which stretches back to the 50's. Lee, again with very little to do and probably glad the whole experience was coming to a close still resonates as the ultimate vampire, and appears more imposing as the film progresses.We do get a slightly different take at the climax, as Dracula is dispatched with the aid of hawthorn branches and a crown of thorns. Well, how many times can we get excited at the appearance of yet another crucifix?This Warner Archive Blu-ray is Region Free and has very good picture quality, especially in close-ups. Longer shots unfortunately are slightly blurred and certainly don't scream Hi-def. If however you've only experienced one of the many horrendous DVD releases, or worse Warner's butchered VHS from back in the day, then this is a real eye-opener, and maybe the best we'll ever get.Extras are limited to just a single trailer.

Christopher Lee & Peter Cushing are in this film, but it's not as good as most of Hammer's Dracula films. It starts out more like a spy movie, with authorities investigating a terrorist plot by Dracula to spread the plague. Not the typical gothic atmosphere of Hammer.

This is a very good movie,most people are let down by the fact it isn’t a typical Hammer Horror film.It does pick up on Dracula AD 1972 but you don’t have to see that film.The fact that Dracula just appears in this film is usual for the series,all the other Hammer films have a set up on how Dracula came back,this one is just hey he appears.This is because he has been busy setting up the final solution to his life,actually a smart idea with a James Bond type of plot.With both Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing in their final Dracula/Van Helsing (He goes by Professor Lorrimer but yeah it’s Van Helsing) battle,it is a must see for Hammer/Dracula fans.

リージョンフリーのブルーレイですので、我が国のレコーダーでも鑑賞可能。但し、日本語字幕はありません（英語字幕はあり）。特典は劇場用予告編が収録されています。画質は素晴らしいとは言えないまでも中々良いです。日本では品質の点で悪名高きメーカーよりDVDがリリースされていたが、どうやら廃盤になったようで、本ソフトを含めた海外版を購入するしか鑑賞方法はないと思われます。ネットの評価では面白いと言う人もいれば駄作だと言う人もいるように意見が真っ二つに分かれている本作（駄作の意見の方が若干多い）。シリーズ9作品の中で今作は8作目に位置するが、リーさんのドラキュラ伯爵に限定すると7作目となる。更にリーさんとピーター・カッシングの共演作となると何と3作目。始終共演しているように思えるが意外と少ない。今作の舞台は1973年のロンドン。ゆえに前作同様、シリーズの代名詞でもあるゴシック・ホラーとは厳密に言えば違う（一応前作の続編と言う形をとってます）。しかも前作までは『おれはドラキュラだぁ』と言わんばかりに血を吸いまくって悪の限りを尽くしていたが、本作では1大コングロマリットの頂点に立つ実業家と偽ってコソコソと人類滅亡を図っている。くぁーっと口開いて2本の牙で血を吸うのも僅か1度のみ。何かいつものドラキュラ伯爵らしくないのである。見ように寄っちゃ「オーメン 最後の闘争」のダミアンみたいである。なのにスケールの大きな話の割にはもうチョット金かけても良かったのにと思うくらい全体的にショボい。ペスト菌をばら撒いて人類を滅亡させようと計画している悪の組織対ヘルシング教授&英国諜報部の対決なんだから、いっその事「007」みたいにド派手にすりゃ良かったのに。リーさんが『わしゃもうドラキュラ役はやらん。これで最後にする』と製作前に宣言していたので、既にやる気がなかったのかリーさんの演技に何時もの冴えなし（「血のエクソシズム」の突っ立てるだけのリーさんよりはマシか）。ピーターさんはお年を召したとはいえ、相変わらず動きは機敏で頑張ってます。本作は女優陣がイマイチ。前作のステファニー・ビーチャムやキャロライン・マンローのようなグラマーな肉体派は出演せず。ヴァン・ヘルシング教授の孫娘ジェシカ役はステファニーからジョアンナ・ラムレイへとバトンタッチされたが、ジョアンナは知性派美人だがセクシーさに欠けるので残念。ヴァン・ヘルシング教授が過去ドラキュラ復活の為に重要な役割を果たしたある小道具を手にしてジ・エンド。これで2度とドラキュラ復活はあり得ないのであったぁぁぁぁぁ！リーさんのドラキュラ引退を想定し、練りに練られた脚本である事がこのエンディングで証明された訳である（ホンマかいな？！）。
