Small size vest on the Coofandy size chart indicates a 36"-38" size chest. The vest I have do have plenty of adjustment available.

Size L is a 42-44 chest size. Another sure way to determine what size a vest you need is to base it on your suit coat size. I am 5'10" and weight 215 pounds and bought this vest in XL size.

Chest size will indicate jackets, shirts, and vests, i.e. a 36"-38" chest is a "small" size, check the manufacturers size chart. Pants are based on waist and crotch to end of leg length, i.e. 30" waist x 30" length, and so on.
